Garden Competition
Chair: Mary Pferdmenges
Assistant Chair: Laura Joppru
Premium Sponsor: White Oak Garden Center

Do you have a green thumb?  Do you want to display your gardening talents at the Fair?  Then we invite you or your group to participate in our Second Annual Garden Competition at the Hamilton County Fair.  This was a great success last year, as we had 23 separate areas and portable pots planted by various groups.  The Fairgrounds looked beautiful.  We still have several areas available for planting this year, and we would love for you to consider undertaking this fun, friendly, competitive project.

Each group participating is assigned an area located on the Fairgrounds to cultivate and plant to their interpretation of the Floral Show Theme.  This year’s theme is “Hamilton County and Then Some”.  We are celebrating the different neighborhoods throughout the county.  For example, if you want to feature Mt.  Healthy in your display, you might include props such as medicine bottles.  Or, if you want to feature Roselawn, you might want to plant roses.  We encourage groups to have fun with the theme and be creative!

We have several different types of areas available, ranging from 6’ by 6’ beds, to flower boxes, to portable pots.  You are also welcome to bring your own pots or boxes from home to be displayed on the Grounds during the Fair.  Our goal is to beautify the Fairgrounds, and to showcase the talented gardeners that reside in Hamilton County.  We are happy to provide photos of the areas available.

And, since this is the County Fair, and this is a competition, ribbons and monetary prizes will be awarded.  We have four categories:

Professional: includes local garden-based businesses, greenhouses, landscapers, etc.  First prize $50, second $30, third $20.
Amateur:  includes local garden clubs and individuals.  First prize $50, second $30, third $20.
Portable pots and boxes: First prize $20, second $15, third $10.
Juvenile: one award for “Best in Show” will be given here, along with $15.

A big “thank you” goes to White Oak Garden Center for sponsoring our monetary awards!

We hope that you will consider undertaking this fun project.  If you would like to participate, you must contact Laura Joppru.  She is happy to answer any questions, or to let you know the areas still available for planting.  You may reach Laura via email at laurajoppru@gmail.com, or call her at (513) 681-3641.  We hope to see you there!
