In the event of death, the exhibitor must have a signed, original letter from a veterinarian. If a market goat project dies before June 15, the participant has one week (7 days) to purchase a replacement animal. If a project dies on June 15 or after, the animal may not be replaced. The Species Coordinator must be notified immediately.
Goats - General Regulations
1. All goats must be in the Jr. Fair participant’s care and possession by May 1, 2007
2. All Dairy goats must be dehorned and healed by May 1, 2007.
3. All goats must be properly identified and reported as such on the barn registration form.
a. Ear or tail tattoos are preferred for identification; although, ear tags will be accepted.
4. All goats brought to the Hamilton County Fairgrounds are required to be in accordance with the current health regulations AND the current Scrapie Program Regulations according to the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
5. Exhibitors must wear appropriate attire while in the show ring.
a. Dairy classes require boots, white shirt, and white pants.
b. An exhibitor showing both Dairy Goats and Market Goats should wear boots, white shirt, and white pants.
Dairy Goats
1. All Jr. Fair participants taking a goat project in which the doe will be lactating (producing milk) at any time during the project, the participant is required to attend the Livestock Quality Assurance meeting, along with a parent.
2. Age and lactation status must be listed on the mandatory barn registration.
3. Ages are as follows:
a. kid (less than one year on the day of the show)
b. yearling (over one year but less than two years of age on the day of the show)
c. senior (over two years of age on the day of the show).
4. Lactation Status is as follows:
a. dry (on day of show)
b. lactating (on day of show)
5. All lactating does are required to be attended to and milked by the Jr. Fair participant at the mandatory milk-out the night before the show (Thursday PM – Time will be posted in barn). These goats should NOT be milked again prior to show.
6. Dairy goats will show according to breed and age of the goat.
7. Classes may be split or combined at the discretion of the Species Coordinator.
8. Dairy goats must fall into one of the following ADGA recognized dairy breeds
a. Alpine
b. LaMancha
c. Nubian
d. Oberhasli
e. Saanen
f. Toggenburg.
9. An exhibitor may make 2 (two) entries per class.
Market Goats
1. Jr. Fair participants who wish to exhibit and sell a market goat are required to attend the Livestock Quality Assurance meeting, along with a parent.
2. Market goats must be born on or after January 1, 2007.
3. Market goats must be dehorned, castrated, and healed by May 1, 2007.
4. All market goats must be tagged on the first Saturday in May at the designated market goat tag-in location.
5. Market goats must weight a minimum of 45 pounds in order to sell in the Livestock Sale.
6. Market goats must be a wether.
7. Classes may be divided into two types:
a. Dairy/meat crossbred
b. Pure bred (Boer, Spanish, Kiko).
8. An exhibitor may exhibit and sell a maximum of three (3) market goats per year (Oct. 1-Sept. 30).
Angoras
1. Age must be listed on the barn registration.
2. Angora goats do not compete for Grand Champion Dairy Goat.
Harness Goat
1. Must be a wether
2. Must be in Jr. Fair participant’s care and possession by May 1, 2007.
3. Goat must be castrated, dehorned and healed by May 1, 2007.
4. Goat must be properly identified and listed as such on the barn registration.
Harness Kid –
· The kid goat must be halter broken and led by the exhibitor with a lead strap.
· Animal should properly respond to the voice commands of: Stop, Go and Back.
· This is the first (1st) year animal is exhibited.
Harness Yearling
· The goat will be harnessed and pull an empty cart.
· The goat should properly respond to the voice commands of: Stop, Go, Left, Right and Back.
· This is the second year the animal is exhibited.
Senior Harness
· The goat will be harnessed and pull a cart driven by the exhibitor.
· The goat must respond to the voice commands of: Stop, Go, Back, Left, and Right while pulling the cart and exhibitor through the designated obstacle course.
· This is the third year the goat is exhibited.
Goat Showmanship
Senior
Open to all Jr. Fair goat exhibitors 14 yrs. old and older (as of January 1 of current year)
Junior
Open to all Jr. Fair goat exhibitors under the age of 14 (as of January 1 of current year)
NOVICE SHOWMANSHIP
Open to all Jr. Fair participants age 8-18 showing a species for the FIRST TIME EVER.
Premiums
A - $6.00  
B - $5.00  
C - $4.00
Exhibits will be graded on an A, B, and C basis and placed on a 1, 2, and 3 basis.
Awards and/or Rosettes will be awarded to First, Second, and Third Place in each class.
