POULTRY JUDGING/POLICIES

Replacement, in the event of death of a small animal or poultry project, will not be permitted after July 1 of current year. In the event of a sick animal, eliminating the exhibit from fair, the exhibitor must have a signed, original letter from the veterinarian. This is only applicable June 30 to 24 hours before the weigh-in at the fair
Poultry - General Regulations
1. All Poultry must be checked in Tuesday, July 31, 2007, by 7:30 PM prior to barn meeting at 8:00 PM.
a. Health papers and/or Pollorum-free test result paperwork must be presented at check in.
No Poultry Will Be Allowed to Exhibit without These Papers.
2. All Poultry entries, with the exception of meat ducks, must be in the participant’s care and possession on and after May 1 of current year.
3. Bantams may be entered in breeding classes only.
4. All chickens and birds must fit into one of the following definitions and listed as such on the barn registration:
a. Pullets-females, under 1 year on day of show
b. Hens-females, 1 year & older
c. Cockerels- males, under 1 year
d. Cocks- males, 1 year & older.
5. Exhibitors may take TWO entries in each class for the Hamilton County Fair.
6. Harvest Home exhibitors may take three (3) entries total.
7. A ‘pair’ of any poultry is defined as one (1) male and one (1) female of the same breed as well as same variety within that breed.
8. All exhibitors will be required to bring their own birds to the table for judging.
a. When an exhibitor has more than one entry in a class, the exhibitor’s second entry may be shown by a family participant, another Jr. Fair exhibitor, or his/her 4-H advisor.
9. No bird may be shown in more than one breed class.
a. A bird shown in a breed class may be used again in showmanship.
10. Any birds appearing unworthy will be evaluated by the Species Coordinator and Educator.
11. Classes may be split or combined at the discretion of the Species Coordinator and Educator.
Market Chickens:
1. Market chickens must be weighed-in and banded for identification on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 following the barn meeting at 8:00 PM.
a. In accordance with state requirements, birds must be accompanied with Pollorum/Typhoid FREE test results.
2. Meat pens will consist of four (4) birds. Each exhibitor is limited to one meat pen entry.
3. Meat pens must be hatched on or after June 1 of the current year as well as owned and cared for by the exhibitor from the age of 48 hours.
4. Meat pens (4 birds) will be limited to the following criteria:
a. Max pen weight - 26.0 pounds
b. Min pen weight - 14.0 pounds.
5. Birds not meeting the maximum/minimum weight limit will be disqualified from selling in the Jr. Fair Livestock Sale.
6. Entries in ANY meat chicken class may be of any type meat chicken.
a. Meat chickens may be de-beaked, de-toed, dubbed, or subjected to any practice accepted in the commercial production of meat type poultry.
7. Exhibitors may exhibit and sell two Roasters.
a. Roasters must be over (9) nine weeks of age (born prior to June 1) AND weigh over 6.0 pounds.
Market Turkey:
1. Turkeys must be weighed in and banded for identification at weigh-in following the barn meeting Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at 8:00 PM.
a. In accordance with state requirements, turkeys must be accompanied by Pollorum/Typhoid FREE test results.
2. Birds entered in the Turkey Class must not be over 22 weeks of age on the day of show.
a. Birds must be housed/raised in groups of two or more.
3. The minimum weight for a turkey to exhibit and sell is 16.0 pounds.
4. Entries in market turkey class may be any type of commercial turkey.
a. Turkeys may be de-beaked, de-toed, de-winged or subjected to any practice generally accepted in the commercial production of meat type turkeys.
5. Classes may be split by weight and sex at the discretion of the Species Coordinator and Educator.
6. An exhibitor may show and subsequently sell two (2) turkeys in the Jr. Fair Livestock Sale.
Ducks/Waterfowl:
1. All waterfowl must be in the participant’s care and possession on and after June 1 of the year exhibited.
2. Participants must have waterfowl breed and age listed on the barn registration.
3. Exhibitors may have two entries in each class, with the EXCEPTION of meat ducks.
a. Each exhibitor will be limited to one entry in each meat duck class.
4. Grand and Reserve Champion Meat Pens MUST be sold in the Jr. Fair Livestock Sale.
a. At the exhibitor’s discretion, other Jr. Fair meat pens may be sold.
5. Meat ducks must be shown as a pen of two ducks.
a. A pen of two can be of opposite sex.
b. Minimum weight for a pen of ducks is 9.0 pounds.
6. Market ducks must be hatched on or after June 1 of the current year, as well as owned and cared for by the exhibitor from the age of 48 hours.
Showmanship
1. Turkey Exhibitors will participate in turkey showmanship.
2. All others will be grouped in poultry & waterfowl showmanship.
3. Senior Showmanship
a. Open to all Jr. Fair poultry exhibitors 14 yrs. old and older (as of January 1 of current year)
4. Junior Showmanship
a. Open to all Jr. Fair poultry exhibitors under the age of 14 (as of January 1 of current year)
5. NOVICE SHOWMANSHIP
a. Open to all Jr. Fair participants age 8-18 showing a specie for the FIRST TIME EVER
Premiums
A - $3.00   
B - $2.00   
C - $1.00
Exhibits will be graded on an A, B, and C basis, and placed on a 1, 2, and 3 basis.
Awards and/or Rosettes will be awarded to First, Second, and Third Place in each class.
