JR. FAIR SHEEP JUDGING/POLICIES

In the event of death, the exhibitor must have a signed, original letter from a veterinarian. If a market lamb project dies before June 15, the participant has one week (7 days) to purchase a replacement animal. If a project dies on June 15 or after, the animal may not be replaced. The Species Coordinator must be notified immediately.
Sheep - General Regulations
1. Market lambs must weigh a minimum of 90 pounds in order to be sold.
2. Market lambs must be born in the year they are exhibited/sold.
3. On May 1, market lambs and/or sheep breeding must be owned and cared for by the exhibitor.
a. Market lambs may not be on pasture after May 1 - dry feed only.
4. All market lambs will be tagged by the Jr. Fair Species Committee at a location designated by the committee on the first Saturday after May 1.
5. Market lambs must come to tagging with Scrapie Identification as required by Ohio Livestock Rules.
a. Animals not properly tagged upon arrival will be immediately sent home and disqualified from showing.
6. A total of five (5) market lambs may be exhibited/sold by a Jr. Fair participant during the Jr. Fair calendar year (Oct. 1- Sept. 30).
a. Jr. Fair participants interested in exhibiting a Market Lamb will participate in a lottery drawing, for the selection of Jr. Fair participants to exhibit at the Harvest Home Fair.
b. If a participant’s lamb project is not chosen in the lottery, they may bring that project(s) to the county fair.
c. Jr. Fair participants are responsible to designate on the barn/animal registration forms how many lambs will be entered at each fair.
i. The lottery results will affect this number.
7. Only slick shear cuts (1/4 inch or less) will be permitted on market lambs.
8. Animals must be brought to the fairgrounds slick sheared and clean.
a. Wet market lambs will not be weighed.
9. All breeding project animals must have some form of identification tag for the county barn registration.
10. Breeding lambs must come to tagging with Scrapie Identification as required by Ohio Livestock Rules.
a. Animals not properly tagged upon arrival will be immediately sent home and disqualified from showing.
11. All sheep brought to the Hamilton County Fairgrounds are required to be in accordance with the current Scrapie Regulations set by the Ohio Department of Agriculture.
Premiums
A - $6.00
B - $5.00  
C - $4.00
Exhibits will be graded on an A, B, and C basis and placed on a 1, 2, and 3 basis.
Awards and/or Rosettes will be awarded to First, Second, and Third Place in each class.

Senior Showmanship
Open to all Jr. Fair sheep exhibitors 14 yrs. old and older (as of January 1 of current year)
Junior Showmanship
Open to all Jr. Fair sheep exhibitors under the age of 14 (as of January 1 of current year)
NOVICE SHOWMANSHIP
Open to all Jr. Fair participants age 8-18 showing a species for the FIRST TIME EVER.
SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES
1. Each species will have showmanship classes.
2. Showmanship classes will be broken into the following categories:
a. Senior Showmanship – Ages 14-18 as of January 1 of current year.
b. Jr. Showmanship – Under the age of 14 as of January 1 of current year.
c. NOVICE SHOWMANSHIP – Open to all Jr. Fair participants age 8-18 showing a specie for the FIRST TIME EVER.
